Charles Meldrum Scott is a graduate of the University of Birmingham with an honours degree in Philosophy. He started singing professionally at the age of 15 whilst attending Westcliff High School with the likes of Gary Brooker (Procol Harum) and Wilko Johnson (Dr Feelgood). He learned to play guitar and prior to University formed Nookie Sole, an acoustic band that played in the Southend area. After university he went solo as Dion Charles and spent over 30 years on the professional music circuit either with his band Pine Bluff or as part of the duo Roger & Dion Charles. He wrote much of his own material and his songs have been played on various radio stations both here and in the USA. Alongside his musical career, he worked in financial services sales and management and became an Associate of the Life Insurance Association. After this he founded a specialist recruitment agency which he ran for 20 years and which continued until 2008. Being his own boss allowed him the freedom to go on mini tours and perform throughout the UK. Charles always had an interest in complementary therapy and he studied various related subjects before gaining qualifications in Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Tui Na, Acupressure, Reiki, MLD, EFT, Psychometric Testing, Stress Management and Counselling. These treatments were offered professionally to clients in Aberdeenshire from 2006 to 2014. In 2014 Charles moved to the Forest of Dean, an area he knows well having spent many years in the region previously. Additionally, Charles is a writer and poet and has had works published in various journals.
In 2016, the combination of musical and therapeutic skills led to Charles being approached to help Mindsong, a charity offering music therapy to people with dementia. This led to referrals to other groups and, hence, the entry into the area of music specifically as therapy.
In addition to therapeutic sessions, Charles still loves to sing and perform backing himself on both guitar and ukulele.
